Canna Kendall

Canna Kendall began headhunting in advertising in 1976 when she was asked to find the best creative people for The Campaign Palace in Australia. At that time the pinnacle of creative advertising in London was found at Collett Dickenson and Pearce, Doyle Dane Bernbach, Boase Massimi Pollitt, French Gold Abbott and Saatchi & Saatchi. Canna quickly became known to everyone in those creative departments and she was asked by the most outstanding talent to represent them in progressing their careers in London and Australia.

In 1978 Canna asked Freddie Tarrant to join her and together they became the most respected and successful headhunting company in London: Kendall Tarrant. They specialised in finding creative people for a wider and wider selection of agencies, until they were covering all disciplines in advertising. It was at this point, in the mid-80's, they took the company public.

But big isn't always best, so Canna branched out again. In 1996 Canna Kendall & Co. was launched (with a suitably exciting party hosted by several agency heads). They were backing Canna's desire to return to the culture of a small company run by a young team who would exclusively focus on the creative side of the industry again.

Canna had been an actress/singer when she was first asked to find and represent creative people in advertising. By using as her model her own theatrical agent she easily distinguished herself from the other advertising headhunters. As she learnt the art of analysing and fulfilling a brief, she realised that the true 'agent' must be fully concentrated on the needs of the client and candidate. Only then, after they are both satisfied could the agent's fee be relevant. This belief still drives the company today.
